EU focus on job temping

EU Employment Commissioner Vladimir Spidla has called for better conditions for temporary workers, especially in Germany. He's told the newspaper "Die Welt" that temps assigned for six weeks or more should get the same pay, social and health safguards, and training opportunities as salaried colleagues.

-->Spidla says the EU plans to draw up regulations by late this year. German DGB trade union federation chairman Michael Sommer has welcomed the move, saying Europe must tackle the issue of unequal pay. Spidla accuses firms in Europe, including some in Germany, of usingjob temping to lay off salaried staff and save costs.
