Unlike the average tweeted food porn, this was accompanied by a plaintive request: what is this thing and what is it for? The tweeter, Kat Kinsman, is managing editor of CNN Eatocracy and she was sharing a table with a group of other high-powered foodists at a dinner honouring Thomas Keller at the time she hit “send”. Kinsman has prior form with flatware, as she mentioned later: “I have an MFA [master of fine arts] degree in Metalsmithing and am always deeply amused by antiquated or single-purpose items like grape shears, lamb handles, fish knives, etcetera.” The spoon, as a rapid Google search established, was a cuillère à sauce individuelle, with a flat spatula-like bowl, so sauce can be scraped from the plate without tilting it, and a notch through which any superfluous fat can drain.

A femme fatale (/ˌfæm fəˈtɑːl/ or /ˌfɛm fəˈtɑːl/; French: [fam fatal]), sometimes called a maneater,^[1] is a stock character of a mysterious and seductive woman whose charms ensnare her lovers, often leading them into compromising, dangerous, and deadly situations. She is an archetype of literature and art. Her ability to entrance and hypnotise her victim with a spell was in the earliest stories seen as being literally supernatural; hence, the femme fatale today is still often described as having a power akin to an enchantress, seductress, vampire, witch, or demon, having power over men. In American early 20th century film, femme fatale characters were referred to as vamps, an allusion to their role as sexual vampires.

The phrase is French for "fatal woman". A femme fatale tries to achieve her hidden purpose by using feminine wiles such as beauty, charm, and sexual allure. In some situations, she uses lies or coercion rather than charm. She may also make use of some subduing weapon such as sleeping gas, a modern analog of magical powers in older tales. She may also be (or imply that she is) a victim, caught in a situation from which she cannot escape; The Lady from Shanghai (a 1947 film noir) is one such example. A younger version of a femme fatale is called a fille fatale, or "fatal girl"....

「下午一面譯稿，一面思索「演譯 femme fatale」這個命題。
為了維繫近些日子以來所建立的模式，我還是先從解字開始：
femme = woman; wife
fatal（陽性形容詞），fatale（陰性形容詞）= fatal，也就是說這個字英文和法文完全相同。
在法文裡，講求性、數一致，這個例子中，因為femme為陰性名詞，所以它的形容詞要用fatale。
採用數學裡的代換運算，femme fatale = fatal woman。

引文提到「美麗壞女人」算是平和的譯法，可是達不到fatal的程度，
白話一點，可以說「要命的女人」或「致命的女人」；
希臘神話裡有 fatal sisters 控制的是人類的命運；

妲己可能是歷史上最早出現的致命女人香，而鍾無豔則可以算是最不致命的女人了。（不用女人香，是因為書上形容的鍾無豔是個超醜的婆娘
